Most of this website is dedicated to supporting the Stallion Responsive WordPress SEO Package I develop. You’ll find various Stallion Responsive Tutorials and plenty of references to how Stallion works throughout articles within this website even when the articles aren’t specifically about the Stallion SEO package: examples include the general SEO Tutorial Series and the WordPress SEO Tutorial Series. Over the years I’ve offered a lot of free tech support for WordPress users and it can get frustrating when asked the same question that is answered and just a couple of clicks away from the visitor. Links on WordPress Comment Pages Not Active
Under the article, in the comments I have embedded links in my replies to the readers comments. I thought I would give someone the cid link to the comments page but the only active link on this page takes them back to the article.
Where there are 15 links to my other articles…
I guess my question is, should these links be active on your page and if so am I not doing something right?
It seemed painfully simple to set up so I really love it for that but if I have to go in and make a child theme and start editing .php or something then I will just not worry about it.
Except for the links issue, the plugin works well, although I’m not sure I’m seeing any big help in Google webmaster.
Links on WordPress Comment Pages Not Active
Make WordPress Comment Links Clickable
You are using the Stallion WordPress SEO Comments Plugin which doesn’t convert text based URLs to clickable links.
WordPress comments by default convert a URL like https://stallion-theme.co.uk/ to a clickable HTML link (it’s a core WordPress function).
Easiest way to have clickable links in your Stallion SEO Comments is add the HTML links manually as you’ve done here: http://www.jeff-foliage.com/2015/03/march-update-to-2015-foliage-forecast/?cid=3245
The original comment has clickable link: edit the two comments and you’ll see the difference, the one you have problems with is just a list of text URLs the other one has full HTML links.
You’ll note on my site this comment doesn’t have any clickable links, the Stallion Responsive Theme has an option to turn automatic clickable links off for SEO reasons. When WordPress turns a text based URL like https://stallion-theme.co.uk/ into a clickable link it adds a nofollow attribute (adds rel=”nofollow” to the links HTML code) and nofollow deletes valuable link benefit. I can still add clickable links manually and not have the nofollow attribute like this link explaining WordPress SEO and Rel Nofollow. When you add a link on your site because you use another theme it will have the nofollow attribute which is deleting your valuable link juice.

Theme settings change randomly
Hello David,
I have installed Stallion and made some custom tweaks in page layout en css settings (in this case: style-white-n-blue.css) directly in the child theme.
I also have installed stallion in a sub-directory on a fresh wordpress-install
All seem fine when i test mine changes. But when for example i refresh everything, close browser etc.
I get randomly settings which i have sett off. For example in Seo post widget i choose no thumbnails and excerpt, then it randomly shows those again.
Also i changed the layout into left sidebar then when it loads after refresh it shows sometimes the default layout and sometimes mine custom one.
In this case i have set a page as mine static front page. Sometimes it shows in mine custom layout and then sometimes in the default.
Also i have made changes to css , sometimes it shows mine custom settings, then again the default settings.
Same with adsense i choose ad-1 text only, then it also shows graphic ads.
Strange, am i doing something wrong? Do i need to take certain steps in tweaking which are not common in normal wp-tweaking?
Hope you can help and thanks.

Hello David,
Short update, i think it has something to do with the cache. I now empty all and will test it.
Can it be the cache?
I also will let you know after testing.
Thanks
Clear your Cache
Yes, that sounds like a caching issue.
Two things to do.
1. If using a caching plugin use it’s settings to clear the plugins cache after major changes. For example a plugin won’t know you’ve modified a CSS file.
2. Clear your browsers cache.

Hello David,
Thanks for the answer.
I think that was the problem, i now see the changes. Hope it stays so :)
thanks!
multi wp installs and pages
Hello David,
I have a question regarding installing another wordpress install instance beside the existing one with a static front page. Way also as an experiment.
What i want to know is how you would set things up. But before that let me explain how i have done it.
What i have done is the following.
Let say for example mine main website is: www.animals.com with a category tropical animals.
Than I also have made a page with the name: tropical animals. This page will be mine front static page. All the posts in the category: tropical animals will have a manual link to the page: tropical-animals. Why I have chosen a page, because i want that part of mine site rank for the keyword: tropical animals.
Then for not dilluting the niche tropical animals I have created a sub directory under mine domain with the name: sea animals. Then in that sub directory I install a fresh copy of wp and then the same setup only different keyword. Thus, category: sea animals with under that posts regarding sea animals, then a page: sea animals so that all the posts of the sea animals category link to the page: sea animals so in the end I can rank for the main keyword sea animals and the same for the other keyword without them interfering each other.
Is this a right approach? I don’t mine managing multi wordpress installs. How would you do this? Installing multi wp with a static front page where all category posts link to. Or is this bad practice?
Also I have chosen as a custom permalink: postname. But in mine case when I choose the category tropical animals in the sub-directory version the url shows: www.animals.com/tropical-animals/tropical-animals/
Is this bad seo wise? Because when I click on a post then it only show the sub directory and postname according to the permalink setting
And regarding post titles. If mine keyword is for example tropical animal, can i safely mention in all mine titles “tropical animal” with variations of other words. Like this:
Tropical animals on mountains
Tropical animals in bushes
Tropical animals in desserts
Or would this be spam? Constantly mentioning: tropical animals. Do i also have to use words in between them? Or is mine example ok?
Thanks!

WordPress Silo SEO Examples
It sounds like you are trying to create multiple SEO silos (niched sets of content). There’s nothing wrong with what you describe, though if you are a Stallion responsive user you don’t need multiple installs.
There’s a general misunderstanding how silo SEO works, many think it’s related to folder structure (virtual or physical) so they build deeper and deeper sets of content within folders (with WordPress it’s virtual folders) like:
example.com/silo-1/
example.com/silo-1/page-1-within-silo-1/
example.com/silo-1/page-2-within-silo-1/
example.com/silo-1/page-3-within-silo-1/
example.com/silo-1/page-4-within-silo-1/
example.com/silo-2/
example.com/silo-2/page-1-within-silo-2/
example.com/silo-2/page-2-within-silo-2/
example.com/silo-2/page-3-within-silo-2/
example.com/silo-2/page-4-within-silo-2/
This sort of folder structure isn’t needed, it’s an SEO myth. This is fine:
example.com/silo-1/
example.com/page-1-within-silo-1/
example.com/page-2-within-silo-1/
example.com/page-3-within-silo-1/
example.com/page-4-within-silo-1/
example.com/silo-2/
example.com/page-1-within-silo-2/
example.com/page-2-within-silo-2/
example.com/page-3-within-silo-2/
example.com/page-4-within-silo-2/
Silos are built around content on a webpage and interlinking, although URL is an SEO factor it’s a small one so don’t try to get the main silo keyword in all the URLs of a silo set.
Avoid adding unrelated content to a set of pages within a silo, avoid linking to pages outside the silo. That’s all there is to silo SEO, with the above example you would link the pages in silo 1 together and link the pages in silo 2 together and avoid linking silo 1 to silo 2.
With most WordPress installs this is difficult because widgets are sitewide, so your links from one silo are automatically loaded on other silos. One solution to this is have multiple WordPress installs, the widgets are still sitewide, but sitewide now means specific WordPress install rather than domain wide.
This is a pain to manage and how I used to silo SEO content. Now I use features within the Stallion Responsive theme to create silos and reduce linking to unrelated content, this site (one WordPress install) is setup that way.
Go to this category https://stallion-theme.co.uk/responsive/wordpress-seo-tutorial/ and look at the Popular Articles widget, it only links to posts under the WordPress SEO Tutorial category.
Click on any of the posts under the WordPress SEO Tutorial category and again check the Popular Articles widget, you will find each post only links to other posts in the same categories.
I’m using categorizes as SEO silos.
This was achieved using the Stallion SEO Posts widget, it can create popular, recent and other types of widgets and includes silo SEO options. If you want really tight silos add content to only one category, want looser silos add posts to more than 1 category (I find 1 or 2 works best).
Look again at any category, scroll to the bottom and note a categories cloud: this is a standard Tagcloud widget with categories selected instead of tags (basically a form). Look at any post and scroll to the bottom and note the categories cloud is missing.
This was achieved using another Stallion Responsive feature related to widget displaying. I have the categories cloud set to only load on the home page and on archive parts of the site (doesn’t load on posts).
This means Google etc… can easily find it’s way through the site via the category links, but on posts there’s no unrelated category links. I don’t want my WordPress SEO Tutorial silo linking to the Make Money Online category or the AdSense Blogger Templates category etc…
So we have a tendency to only link to related content which is what silo SEO is all about. With Stallion the only sitewide content is the heading and the footer areas.

WordPress Silo SEO Examples
Hello David,
Thanks a lot for your answer.
Ok, clear :) And that is mine aim: silo yes.
But still some questions. Since i want to particularly rank for one keyword, should all mine articles link to that main article and no links from that main article to other articles, thus only internal incoming links?
And should the main article be a page since i want this article to be a static front page.
And should the supporting articles interlink with each other also?
How many links you recommend from one supporting article to the main article?
And is mentioning the same keyword phrase like this ok or spam in the eyes of google:
Tropical animals on mountains
Tropical animals in bushes
Tropical animals in desserts
Thanks!

Google Webmaster Blocking Scripts
Hello David,
Hope you can help.
When i am checking some pages in google webmaster i see certain scripts are blocking the bot from rendering the page, the scripts are:
# https://oauth.googleusercontent.com/gadgets/js/core:rpc:shindig.random:shindig.sha1.js?c=2
# https://syndication.twitter.com/i/jot?
Is there a way to fix this?
Does this has to do with the Stallion Theme?
I am asking this because i noticed that some pages are dropping out of the index, since everything is ok, i only can suspect that these are the causes?
Thanks
Google Webmaster Blocking Scripts
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
If you run a webpage through the free Google PageSpeed Insights Tool you’ll tend to find some issues related to “Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content”.
What this means is there are javascript and/or CSS files that have to load before the main content is loaded. If there are a lot of blocking CSS/js files it can cause your content to load slowly because render blocking means those js/CSS files have to load fully before the content loads.
Having render blocking scripts will not result in webpages not being indexed. A note on being indexed, do this search in Google to see what webpages on a domain are indexed:
site:example.com
I see a lot of webmasters stating their webpages aren’t indexed, when they mean aren’t ranked for a particular search phrase.
Having render blocking issues will not prevent a webpage from being indexed, but could have a small impact on being ranked.
With the Stallion Responsive theme there are render blocking js/CSS files, how many depends on features used. If you check my site (this webpage for example) : https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fstallion-theme.co.uk%2Ftechnical-support%2F&tab=mobile
You will find it has just one render blocking CSS file. Unless you put all CSS inline (generally not a good idea) you will have at least 1 render blocking CSS file (that’s fine).
The blocking files you listed are not all related to the Stallion Responsive theme features:
This one is related to AdSense and probably added by Stallion.
I don’t think the others are added by Stallion, these are related to Google services:
# https://ssl.gstatic.com/accounts/o/3655170095-postmessagerelay.js
This one is Twitter, but don’t think it’s the code used by Stallion:
None of them will cause indexing issues and minimal impact on ranking.

Silo Main Keyword Research
Hi Dave,
I got to this site searching for Silo Plugins.
I found out that there are 3-4 people who made Silo ready plugins/themes and you are one of them.
One of the people who made a silo plugin is: www.networkempirenews.com
They give away their plugin, but their services are extremely expensive and I could not afford to pay their monthly fees. They have a keyword research service called “the krakken” which finds the low competitive high converting keywords for your silo and builds all the map of keywords for you. Hence, what it does is: it finds you all the keywords for your mini niche site so you rank it fast and easy.
Since this tool is out of my range and does not seem to work as they state(tried their free silo plugin and broke my site), my question is:
What is the best way to find main keywords to build the silos?
I need to find keywords to build mini sites around and be able to rank those keywords with ease. And of course those keywords need to be commercial terms. I am currently using keyword planner’s group of keywords to find the main terms, and sub-terms, but I think I need something better than that.
Let me know if you can help me with this and if you also have a link building program you recommend.
thanks
ariel
