The Stallion Responsive Theme includes two built in header areas, these can be turned on/off independently of each other meaning you can have a WordPress blog with. WordPress Custom Header Background Image?
David,
I’ve been trying to upload a custom header background image and I continue to get this message: Not enough space to upload. 149 KB needed. Back
When I used Stallion 5, all I needed to do was make my header image 1000×130 and name the file c1.jpg and everything was fine. Now that I’m using Stallion SEO Ad Theme version 7.1.1 it doesn’t appear to add a header the same way. I was trying the background upload as a last effort. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks,
Randy

If you get an error there’s not enough space it means there’s not enough disk space for that image on the server. Depending on your host will determine how much disk space you have, some can be quiet low and easy to run out. Either get more space or delete some stuff you don’t need (themes and plugins you don’t use for example).
There wasn’t a Stallion 5, there was a Talian 5 and the c1.jpg header image concept is still the same in Stallion 7. If it’s the site you linked to it looks like the header image is turned off, so check your Stallion settings ‘Stallion Colour Options >> Original Stallion Header Area Header Image ON’ and select ‘Custom 1.jpg’.
As you can see at
Your custom header image is in the right place.

WordPress Custom Header Images
Sorry this is such a simple thing but I am not a WordPress expert – very much a beginner. For my website, I want to use my own Header that is 1000 x 130 and while I tried to follow the Header tutorial, I just couldn’t get it right. Can you tell me what are the various things I need to toggle on Stallion Responsive in order to get my custom header to appear?
Also, what do I actually call the custom header file when I upload it via Godaddy. (should it be “custom1.jpg” or “c1.jpg” and where do I upload that to – which subdirectory? Thanks very much.

If you’ve installed the Stallion Responsive Child theme upload them to
“/wp-content/themes/stallion-responsive-child/headers/”
Or if no child theme:
“/wp-content/themes/stallion-responsive/headers/”
using an FTP program.
It’s best to add it to the child theme (install the child theme), when you update Stallion Responsive using the automated update option (under “Dashboard” >> “Updates”) everything under “/wp-content/themes/stallion-responsive/” is deleted (that’s how WordPress updates themes, deletes the old files including your c1.jpg file and uploads new), but everything under “/wp-content/themes/stallion-responsive-child/” remains intact (nothing deleted from the child theme during an update so your c1.jpg file won’t be deleted).
You can see my c1.jpg file is loaded at : https://stallion-theme.co.uk/wp-content/themes/stallion-responsive-child/headers/c1.jpg
You can check if yours is in the right location by using the URL above and change my domain name with yours, when c1.jpg is in the right directory you’ll see it using the URL format above.
Hmm, just realized I missed some options on the child theme options page for these, not a big deal means where there is supposed to be two ways to choose the custom images there’s one (still works exactly the same way).
If you have the Child theme active go to “Stallion Theme” >> “Child Theme Options” and set “Alternative Stallion Header Area Header Image” to “Use Original Options” (this is very important). Here is where the 10 custom images should have been repeated so they could be selected on the child theme options page, looks like I forgot to add them (has no impact on the output).
Under “Stallion Theme” >> “Colour Options” set “Alternative Stallion Header Area Header Image” to “Custom 1 JPG” if your file is c1.jpg.
For the c1.jpg to work you also should have the following set as well.
Under “Stallion Theme” >> “Colour Options” Set “Alternative Stallion Header Area Header Image ON”
The above turns the image feature ON.
Under “Stallion Theme” >> “Layout Options” Set “Show Alternative Header Area**”
The last setting is related to which of the header areas (Stallion Responsive has two header areas) you want to use. The alternative one (which I use on this website with a c1.jpg like you want to achieve) is for the 1000px x 130px header images that are used as a background behind the name of the site, tagline and search form.
The other header area “Stallion 2011 Header Area” shows images below the name of the site, tagline and search form. although you can have both headers active at the same time, for best results turn one off and the other on.
If you currently have
“Activate 2011 Header Area” ticked
And
“Hide Alternative Header Area” ticked
You wouldn’t see the c1.jpg file, so you’ll need the “Show Alternative Header Area**” ticked.

Inserting ad widget or carousel widget to replace the header image
Hi David,
I would like to replace the Stallion Theme header image with a standard 728×90 size banners rotating widget or amazon carousel widget, but I do not see such an option to place any widget there in the customize options… can you advise how exactly can I do it?
Thank you!
How to Add an Amazon Carousel Widget to WordPress
There are multiple layout options for adding custom ads to the header area.
If you don’t want a header area at all (just ads where the header is) it can be turned off under “Stallion Theme” >> “Layout Options”. You’ll note there are two header areas (“Stallion 2011 Header Area” and “Alternative Stallion Header Area”), I assume you have one active, turn it off.
On this website I use the “Alternative Stallion Header Area” and on my wifes Weight Loss Site it uses the “Stallion 2011 Header Area” with the ” 2011 Title Link Area OFF” option (so we only have the big clickable header image).
You can remove the header area completely or add ads to them (add ads above for example).
There’s a widget area above the header area under “Appearance” >> “Widgets” called “Above Header Area” and I bet you can guess where anything added to that widget area is loaded :-)
That widget area is full screen width so can fit anything up to 1,000px wide, it lacks most CSS styling so you can do what you want with it. You could for example create an Amazon Carousel Widget (under your amazon account) and add either a WordPress Text widget or Stallion Custom Ad widget to the “Above Header Area” widget area and it will load at the top of the site. Depending on what you add will determine what sort of styling you’ll need.
You will note under “Appearance” >> “Widgets” there are four widget areas related to the header area, you may find one of the other three better suited to what you want to achieve.
One that can work well with a 728×90 ads is the “Within/Over Header Area” widget area. As you can read on the widget page you have to turn the Stallion Search Form OFF under “Stallion Theme” >> “Layout Options” for this widget area to become active. The search form is given priority is left on.
Anything added to “Within/Over Header Area” widget area is located where you currently see the search form on this site. If I used it the ad would be over the Stallion horse image.
If you wanted a 728px wide ad you can see you need to limit the title of the site or turn it off (under layout options) otherwise the ad will hover over the title. One interesting way to use this area is turn the site title off, load the tagline in the footer, add a header image and add an ad over the header image.
Example http://wordpress-test2.xllx-inc.com/ (test site, probably won’t stay like that long term) where I’ve got an “Alternative Stallion Header Area Header Image” (using “Computer 2” from the Stallion Responsive Child Theme set under “Stallion Theme” >> “Child Theme Options” : “Alternative Stallion Header Area Header Image”. Also set “Stallion Theme” >> “Colour Options” : “Alternative Stallion Header Area Header Image ON”) and added a PayPal form (goes to PayPal to buy Stallion Responsive) with a unicorn image that’s 739px by 105px as a Text widget to the “Within/Over Header Area” widget area, but I’ve not turned the site title off or moved the tagline to the footer.

How to Add an Amazon Carousel Widget to WordPress
WP Header image
How to make a header image being at the background of the Title, Short Description and a Search Bar? Just as you have on this blog.
By default header image which is 1000*288 is below of the Title, Short Description and a Search Bar, which lacks aesthetics.
Change WordPress Header
There are two header areas with Stallion Responsive, you have the Stallion 2011 Header area set, I have the Alternative Header Area set.
See options under the Stallion Layout Options page.
Also see the alternative header image header image option on the Colour Options page, that turns the background header image on.

Custom WordPress Header Image Upload?
I’ve made “Show Alternative Header Area**” in Layout Options.
And in Colour Options I have found “Alternative Stallion Header Area Header Image” dropdown menu. As I understand I have to choose custom 1 jpg? But where to upload it?
Now there is a default image. Please check my site: www.pivometer.com
And also after those manipulations you can check that a Title with a tagline have moved down with a tagline doubled in the top. What have I done wrong?

See https://stallion-theme.co.uk/wordpress-header-images/
The double tagline and title is because you’ve turned both header areas on. Turn one on, one off.

H1 Replacement Widget in Stallion 8.1?
Hi Dave, have just updated to 8.1, and can’t seem to find the H1 replacement widget in my widget area now. Does this need to be switched on somewhere in 8.1, or am I missing something? Thanks.

Lazy Load Image Plugins for Faster Page Speed
Just some thoughts about image optimization and lazy load plugins, and results of a couple of basic lazy load tests I performed.
I think your sites are generally pretty light on images, on one of my sites I have over 4,000 images, some rather large, so looking for a way to optimize this for the user.
Have already run the images through EWWW image optimizer which I think is the one you use, and that has brought some benefits, at least according to Page Speed Insights.
I have been looking into lazy load image plugins, and just wondering if you have any thoughts on these in general? And if they’d be suited to running with the Stallion theme?
I have tested a couple of these plugins, the first one definitely seemed to bring improvements (using speed tools such as Pingdom, load time was shown to have declined and page size dropped significantly–by even 50%-plus)….However in Page Speed Insights this first plugin damaged my score as it uses render-blocking Javascript and adds 3 blocking script resources, knocking 2-4 points off the baseline.
However I’ve found another one that is described as extremely light and does not rely on jquery. This one (Rocket Lazy Load) seems to bring even better results according to a number of speed tools (Pingdom, GTMetrix, Webpagetest.org), and true to its claims, also Page Speed Insights shows no blocking script resources (and with significantly higher speed scores, 4-5 points, than the first lazy load plugin).
It seems to perform well for the user as well, the images don’t even fade in like you see with some lazy load plugins–you scroll down and they are there already (my layman’s guess is that it pre-loads once you get within a certain distance of the image?). That fade in is a bit annoying to me but with this one from what I can tell you don’t even see it — from a user standpoint it appears to be as if it’s loaded normally and everything is already there when you scroll down.
Based on this it seems a no-brainer to use this lighter lazy load plugin or some other lazy load solution (will probably test a couple more plugins if I can find any others that don’t rely on jquery)–unless of course there is something that I am overlooking with the theme or SEO that I am not taking into account.
