The WordPress Menu Manager found on the Dashboard under “Appearance” >> “Menus” can be used to create custom menus that can be used with widgets, see Custom Menu Widget Tutorial and for creating custom navigation menus many WordPress Themes use. You can check if your WordPress theme includes support for custom WordPress navigation menus under “Appearance” >> “Menus” : “Manage Locations”. Most newer WordPress themes include support for WP Nav menu theme locations to replace the older style automated WordPress navigation menu: older themes would add all Static Pages to the navigation menu with limited options for customization. WordPress Theme Custom Navigation Menus Stallion Responsive for example includes four WordPress Navigation Menus Primary Navigation Secondary Navigation Footer Links Photo Navigation […]

WP Theme Support
David,
Thanks for developing and making your WP Themes available. I just started using WP after acquiring the Bill McRae’s autoblog plugin. Now I have a new found respect for WP and find your Themes especially the new Stallion Theme absolutely incredible. As a jQuery/CSS eCommerce application developer by day, I know you must put an incredible amount of time and effort into your work… Hat’s off to you.
I set up Stallion on a couple of my MPP sites today and noticed a few Talian 5 features missing. I guess I could probably find the answers in the doc but I figured I’d ask anyway:
1. How can I display the “Home” page Tab? My static page tabs display but the home tab which has the same name as the site, is missing. I did discover that you can navigate back to the home page by clicking the site title but many visitors might not figure that out.
2. Again, by default on my Talian 5 Themes there’s a row of Google ad links that site just atop the banner image. How can I turn on this feature in Stallion?
3. And finally, and this one really displays my ignorance, what does GAT stand for, as in 1GAT Adverts, 9GAT Clickbank 01, etc ?
Thanks again for your great work.

WP Nav Menu
I wasn’t able to incorporate the automated home page link using the name of the site into the new style WordPress navigation menu (which is available in Stallion 6, but not Talian 5).
There’s two ways to achieve this link.
You can revert back to the old style navigation menu code (as used in Talian 5) and it’s included. This is an option on the Stallion Layout Options page. This options is pretty much gives you what you had in Talian 5 plus a couple of improvements like the ability to exclude OR include pages (Talian only had exclude).
Or keep with the new style navigation menu and use the WordPress custom menu’s as described at WordPress Nav Menu Manager.
For an automated solution probably best going old style, for a more elegant solution with a lot more options of what to link to on the navigation menu use the custom menus, but they do take longer to setup, so with old autoblogs there’s an argument to go with the fastest solution (time is money).
The top link AdSense ad is still available, but is turned off by default in Stallion 6. Go to the AdSense Options page and turn it back on.
The GAT in widgets stands for “Google AdSense Templates” (name of the site you bought Talian from). The GAT widgets are ones I’ve built and so cause no SEO damage to a site. Some of the default widgets like the non GAT version of Recent Comments causes SEO damage (generates nofollow links on your sidebars deleting link benefit!), so aim to use a GAT widget before a non GAT widget to be safe.

WordPress dropDown Menu Tutorial?
Hello David!
Thank you for this WordPress Menu help page! I have been trying to get my category menu on my WordPress site to show on the top portion of the theme where the tabs are for years. After playing with the new Stallion Theme for a few weeks I still didn’t get how freaking simple it was to create a category menu with tabs to show on top of the page until just now. I just had to thank you for making my dream menu come true!!!! This is a huge benefit of this theme.
If I can help out someone else save a few minutes, it would be just to mention that the Custom Menu Page or Menu Page is found on the Admin right side bar under “Appearance” > “Menu”
When creating a custom menu, drag the menu item a short distance to the right and drop it to create a child menu item to the one above it. (the Parent)
The exhaustive menu details and how to’s can be found here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_SubPanel
So Once again …Thank you!!!! I finally will be able to create the site I dreamed of. For me, this custom menu option is the most important feature that WordPress Themes have- next a perfect Adsense system for WP templates!
WordPress dropDown Menu Tutorial?
WordPress Sub-Pages
Hi, David
I am trying to arrange pages of my website and I want to do as your web here. How can I do? Please give me more detail because Your website pages have sub-pages and can create more.
I could create more but I want to include some categories as sub-pages too but I don’t know how to do.
Thank in advance,
WordPress Custom Menus
Do you mean the drop down menu just below the header area starting with the “Stallion Theme Support” link?
If so that’s built using WordPress custom menus, combination of WordPress core and Stallion options.
See WordPress Menu Manager Stallion Theme Feature
Need to update the above tutorial to take into account the four Stallion custom menu “Theme Locations” available:
Primary Navigation – Below the header
Secondary Navigation – Above the header
Footer Links – Within the footer
Photo Navigation – The sliding photo navigation menu (5 image links) you see below the header. Finally got around to creating some images for this site so I could use it, I think it looks great.

Best WordPress Blog Plugins
Hi, David
I am really appreciated you so much. You are so nice to tell us everything. I am now trying to build my website the same as yours (here) but I could not do well.
How many plugin do you use for this blog? and I hope that you tell me all so that I could install and do the same as you.
Now I am learning how to create Menu custom pages but it was so difficult to understand all parts. In fact, I am not English native but I hope I can read your post somehow.
Thank you,
Ratanak

WordPress Plugins I Use on this Blog
I write in a technical way which must be difficult for those with English as a second language. Are you using the Stallion Google Translation widget on the right menu which will translate the entire site to other languages, does it help with translating to your main language?
All but the plugin I use for selling Stallion (the add to cart links) are free and listed below (December 2011).
These are my SEO versions from WordPress SEO Plugins

Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin
These are free from the WordPress plugin repository (easy to find with a search).
Akismet – deal with comment SPAM.
Gurken Subscribe to Comments – allow users to subscribe to comments.
Move WordPress Comments – move comments areound.
Tweet old post – Add loads of Tweets automatically :-)
WP-Optimize – manage your database.
Also testing
BulletProof Security – adds security features.
And I use Chameleon CSS for the theme switcher, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you sell themes or need multiple CSS files to load.
I don’t use too many plugins on this site because it’s for selling a theme and if I added loads of plugins with features people who buy Stallion might think the plugin feature is built into Stallion. The plugins I’ve listed above only two of them have a visual effect on the site, the others are behind the scenes.
I use a few other plugins on other sites. From my recommended plugins list at WordPress SEO Plugins it’s worth checking out:
Post Teaser WordPress SEO Plugin – can be good for autoblogs where you don’t create the posts.
Most Popular Posts WordPress Plugin – adds a widget with the most popular posts based on the number of comments. I use this one on a lot of sites.
SEO Smart Links WordPress Plugin – good for internal linking.
WP-PageNavi WordPress Plugin – nicer navigation. I use this one on a lot of sites.
Because I’m turning Stallion into the most feature rich theme there is I’ve added a lot of plugin like features within Stallion, looks like you haven’t turned some of the good ones on.

On your site I see you are using the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin and the All in One SEO Pack Plugin. I do not recommend using either of these plugins, they are NOT SEO plugins, I would delete them both!
See my reviews for full details.
Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin Review
All in One SEO Plugin Review
I can see from your site you are using the bad SEO settings from the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin, I see nofollow links that plugin is damaging your sites SEO.
I also see you’ve installed both the related posts plugins from WordPress SEO Plugins, you only need one of them, so disable the “Related Posts WordPress SEO Plugin” which doesn’t have the thumbnail support.

WordPress Featured Slideshow not Working
I am sure this is my fault, as I have been messing about so much modifying your theme on my site, but the featured slideshow stopped working.
I reinstalled Stallion and delete the images and tried to do everything from scratch, but it does not seem to work. It does not show the multiple images I created and uploaded. I make sure the cache is 777, but still no joy.
I am tempted to zero out the database, but if you have any ideas let me know.

WordPress Featured Posts Slideshow
Thanks for checking. I wish it was that simple, I deleted that jpg you refer to to start a new. For example, I uploaded the above image again and it does not show on the slideshow but as a thunbnail, and the box to use it in the slideshow is checked.
If it is too much trouble, I do not mind nuking the site and starting again, but maybe it is something I do not see.
Also I did note, that one another site, wp-polls might conflict with the slideshow. Not a bit deal not using it anyway, was just a plugin that was installed but never used.
WordPress Featured Posts Slideshow
WordPress Featured Posts Slider
Looking at the code output from view source the output is as I’d expect, compared it to a development site with the same Colour scheme, layout and WordPress featured posts slider settings and the code is correct.
The code is there, but the sliding isn’t working as it should, the sliding is javascript based. I would look at javascript files loaded by other plugins, I see a couple loaded in the footer area one for the stats and the other related to Jetpack. Try disabling plugins that load javascript files see if it fixes the issue.
Could be a simple case of conflicting javascript, one of the plugins use jQuery javascript code like the slider does.
If it is a plugin let me know which and I’ll see if I can find a work around.

WordPress Featured Posts Slider
Jetpack WordPress Plugin Jquery Conflict
Tested Jetpack and it is conflicting with the Stallion Featured Posts Slider javascript.
Think Jetpack is enqueing Jquery since I’m finding
Within the footer area of the test site, jquery-1.7.1.min.js is loaded by the slider and I’m assuming this is causing a conflict with jquery.js loaded within the footer.
A plugin would normally enqueue Jquery with code like this:
This is within Jetpack, but disabling it didn’t remove the script code, so guess it’s enqueued some other way.
Never played around with Jquery beyond copying it into the slider code, so don’t know if there’s a solution. Jquery.min is loaded in the head of the code, jquery.js is loaded in the footer. When I was creating the slider I tried to add it to the footer, but it didn’t work.
Two possible solutions.
1. Load jquery.js in the head instead of Jquery min via the slider code and hope it works for the slider and Jetpack. You’d have to disable the Jetpack Jquery as well most likely.
2. Disable Jetpacks jquery.js code and see what happens, jquery.min.js might be enough.
David
Edit: Adding
Which de registers the the Jquery script.
To the bottom of jetpack.php fixes the slider issue, no idea if it breaks anything Jetpack wise.

WordPress Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_post_format()
Hi there
I have just uploaded the new version and activated it on my chosen wp site.
After entering my Tran code I went to view the front page and saw the following error message
Dont know what it means or how to fix it;
Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_post_format() in /home/acoach5u/public_html/selfimprovementmastery/wp-content/themes/stallion-seo-theme/index.php on line 30
Can you assist?
Thank You
WordPress Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_post_format()
WordPress Theme Development Supported WP Versions
The above error is due to running an old version of WordPress, get_post_format() was added in WordPress 3.1 and Stallion uses the latest WordPress code. So your site must be running WordPress 3.0.* or earlier.
If you update to the latest version of WordPress the error will be gone.
I develop Stallion so it works in the latest two major versions of WordPress. Currently WordPress is at version 3.3.* so I’m checking Stallion works in WordPress 3.2.* and WordPress 3.3.* (it also works in WordPress 3.1.*, but if something broke in WordPress 3.1.* I wouldn’t fix it unless it was a simple fix).
When WordPress updates to WordPress 3.4 I’ll check WordPress 3.3 and WordPress 3.4 when working on updates. I’ve checked Stallion 7.1 with WordPress 3.4 beta releases and early release candidates and already updated some code in the current Stallion version.
WordPress theme developers tend to support the latest two version of WordPress, no easy way to add advanced new WordPress features and say have everything backwards compatible to WordPress version 1 and WordPress version 2…

WordPress Custom Menu Error
Hi David
I have a site under construction. I wanted to have a menu button on the site what visitors can click on to return to main page.
I use latest stallion theme. I went “Customize”, “Menus”, Create menu. I gave a name: “home”. Theme location window, “your theme supports 4 menus. select which menu appears in each location”. I chose primary navigation, type in home. Next Custom links, URL, I gave my site address .
The problem is, now the page can’t be found. even I deleted the menu, page still can’t be found. How can I correct this?
Thank you for your help!
WordPress Custom Menu Error
WordPress Custom Menus
The WordPress Custom Menu is unlikely to cause a home page 404 error page.
Not seen a home page error before.
Have you set a “A static page (select below)” under Settings >> Reading?
If so does the static page exist? Not sure what would happen if a page was selected and later deleted, would guess what you are seeing.
Try setting to “Your latest posts”.
Beyond the above I’ve never tested the front page setting without setting permalinks (Settings >> Permalinks), so I’d check that next.
Then there’s the obvious disable all plugins and see what happens :-)

WordPress Trash
Hi David,
Thank you for your help! I figured it out, but don’t know how it happened. I find the site in the trash. I did not deleted. When I created the menu, page could not be found anymore.
I thought there might be conflict with the menu or it pointing to somewhere else. For me logically was to delete the menu, but the page could not be found after either. I went to “Dashboard”,”Home”, “edit your front page”, that told me the page is in the trash. I restored it, now it’s working fine, I just don’t know how the page ended in the trash, but I’m happy that’s working now.
Thanks for your fast answer and help!
