Big Jump in Search Engine Traffic
I bought your new Talian theme last month and experienced a big jump in traffic. I am sure it was in a good part because of your theme. Hats off for a job well done. There is not reason anyone should not have your themes up and running on their blog. I am not saying that for any other reason than they work. Thank you.
WordPress Navigation Menu Too Many Pages
Is there an easy way to accommodate a large number of pages? If I have a site with say 20 pages what is the best solution: 1) change the css so there is not overlap across the top? 2) change the code to have only three or four pages (or none) and the rest represented on the side bar?
WordPress Exclude Pages From Navigation Menu
I use option 2 Mark.
If you load the header.php file into a text editor and find:
wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&title_li=&depth=1&exclude=')The exclude= bit can be used to exclude pages from the top navigation menu.
You read of the Page IDs from the edit page section under your Dashboard, what I do is hover over the edit link to read the ID numbers and add them like:
Those Page IDs won’t show on the navigation menu.
I’ve also got it setup so child pages are not shown (thanks to the depth=1 bit) on the navigation menu, so if pages are under a parent they won’t show up by default.
I then have the Pages widget on one of the sidebars to list the excluded and child pages. I’m thinking about added a third sidebar that will go above the footer, some of my sidebars get a bit crowded and would be nice to have a place to put some over flow: not high priority feature.
The WordPress SEO Tutorial pages are created that way there’s four child pages under it.
When I made Talian 04 I made it so the navigation menu could hold more links than before, Talian 03 it was around 4 links if the anchor text wasn’t too big, with Talian 04 it’s around 7 links. If you plan to have LOTS of pages you might want to consider deleting the automatic navigation menu and create it manually. I Use a combination of automated navigation links and manual at for example (the poll link isn’t even a Page, it’s a normal Blog Post and the Forum link is added manually).

Changing the banners is easy, I include instructions with the theme how to change the banners to your own images and how to change the number of images as well.
My wife struggles with computers, but made the banners for multiple sites.
I think she has made about 150 now!
I’m useless at art, made various niche banner images from public domain images I found online.
So as long as you can make or acquire banners, it’s easy.

Why is My Credit Cards Declined Online?
I only take payments through PayPal and not had this issue reported before, PayPal takes payments from Canada and the US MasterCard’s.
Might just be a particular debit/credit card you are using they don’t like. I’ve had this issue myself a credit card that’de declined online, (not with PayPal though). I have a debit card that I’ve had with a HSBC current account since University (had the account over 15 years), the account is always in credit, always has thousands of pounds in it, £2,000 overdraft facility, the associated HSBC MasterCard has a £9,000 limit, but many online shops (has to be at least 10%) decline (for no obvious reason) to take a payment from that one debit card! Just that one debit card, all my other cards associated with other accounts are fine.
I’m assuming here you are trying to pay directly with a credit card, (so not paying via a PayPal account) selecting your country as United States or Canada and selecting MasterCard. Entering all your card details and it’s saying you can’t pay with that card or something?
When it happens I use another card.
Anyone know why this happens?

WordPress Comments Broken
I am having trouble with the Talian with Targeted AdSense and SEO Optimisation theme on no comments are displaying when users leave them, it shows the # of comments in the bubble, but won’t display comments. I did not change or alter the single.php at all that would have affected comments. Need help with this, it didn’t work even when I rolled back to vanilla Talian theme.

WordPress Plugin Breaking Comments
The theme comment system works fine on my sites, I’ve got around 15,000 comments on my sites. No other customer has reported a similar issue.
I tried to post a comment and looks like it didn’t work.
When I load the page I see a javascript error reported in Firefox.
I would start with disabling all comment related plugins and see if that fixes it, if it does reinitialise them one by one until it breaks the comments. If it doesn’t fix it disable all plugins and see if it works then.
If you work out which plugin it’s clashing with (if it is a plugin) if it’s a popular plugin I’ll look into it.
I can tell you now the subscribe to comments plugin doesn’t work correctly if you use threaded and multiple page comments. The plugin is way out of date (made before paged and threaded comments) and if you have lots of comments and someone tries to post a threaded comment on a paged comment, the comment posts fine, but the page doesn’t redirect to the place it should go to (I used to get a blank page). I’m reasonably confident the issue is with an out of date plugin not the theme per se, though I doubt this is related to your problem.
If it isn’t a plugin I’d look at what’s causing the javascript error.

Talian WordPress Theme Code Validates
Yes the Talian themes HTML code validates, as you can see from my site you linked to it validates.
If you look at the site you are on now you’ll see there’s validation errors related to the Twitter Updates menu item. This is not part of the Talian theme files, I added it manually and the code doesn’t validate.
So like with my Twitter widget if you run WordPress plugins that generate code that doesn’t validate or you create posts with code that doesn’t validate, the theme will validate, but your pages won’t.
