Google Panda SEO
Looking back at Stallion Responsive traffic stats (on this website which runs the Stallion Responsive WordPress SEO Package) and looks like the Google Panda 4.0 algorithm update (from May 2014) liked Stallion Responsive 8 a LOT. The sessions (unique visits) on this domain according to Google Analytics increased by around 40% looking at the period just before the Google Panda 4.0 update and about a month after the algo update. That’s a nice chunk of new traffic and it’s stable Google Panda 4.0 Traffic Increase The screenshot above is from Google Analytics for this domain, it’s two screenshots in one of the same Google Analytics graph hovering over different periods, a before and after Google Panda 4 time periods. Niche Text Links
There’s a lot of talk by many SEO consultants about themed text links and how they are the ONLY text links a webmaster should be seeking. Some go as far as to state un-themed links are worthless in the search for high Google rankings! They are wrong. What’s a Themed Text Link? There’s many ways to describe backlinks that fall into the same theme as the content the link is to. Some refer to themed backlinks, others niched backlinks and yet others silo backlinks, they all refer to the same sort of link. A backlink from content that’s related to the content it is linking to. First we must decide what a themed link is and this causes a major […]
Text Links via Reciprocal Linking
With reciprocal linking you as an SEO consultant or web site owner have more control over the quality and quantity of the text links obtained. Unfortunately if you are starting with a low PageRank (PR) website finding quality reciprocal link partners is practically impossible. Every low quality website owner and their dog seems to be the main users of reciprocal linking rather than the sort of websites you want links from. Those would be popular websites with reasonable PR webpages that have been online for years, good luck finding those link gems. How to Ask for Reciprocal Links If you’ve owned a site for more than a week you’ve had the reciprocal link SPAM emails. “Saw your great site and […]
Reciprocal Linking: Link to Non-Cached Pages
Link to Non-Cached Pages SEO article updated August 2014. Found this excellent SEO question on a newsgroup “Re: should I reject non-cached sites?” regarding linking to non-cached pages: specifically when a reciprocal link partners links page isn’t cached in Google. Reciprocal Links to Non-Cached Pages I run a modest linking scheme on my website and have always had a policy that we would only link to sites that are cached in Google. I’m not so fussy about PageRank at the moment as our link pages are not all ranked. I’ve had a number of link requests from sites that look pretty well set up but the link page is not cached in Google. Am I right to reject these as […]
SEO Advice on PageRank Sculpting
PageRank Sculpting article updated August 2014… PageRank (PR) confuses a lot of webmasters and SEO Consultants. Many years ago another SEO expert asked me why the site statcounter.com is PR10** despite having a lot of external links on the home page, basically why isn’t the leaked PR (via external links) damaging the sites PR10 home page: the SEO consultant didn’t believe PR leaks and that domain supported his SEO argument regarding PR sculpting. ** As I update this article in 2014 the PR of the domain has dropped to PR8, this doesn’t necessarily mean the site’s lost significantly more than half it’s backlinks. PageRank is based on the entire WWW, well at least the part Google spiders and since I […]
SEO and Static vs Dynamic URLs
This SEO question appears on most SEO forums from time to time and is another generally misunderstood SEO topic and one all SEO consultants should understand. What’s a static HTML page? The classic static web page is generated from an actual page ‘physically’ located on the server: so if you had a page named static-page.html somewhere on your server you could find and download this page (it exists, you could grab it via FTP). The very first websites all used static HTML pages and so the first search engines cut their teeth on static web pages. What’s a dynamically generated web page? As the web developed a new way to generate websites arrived, dynamically generated web pages. They differ from […]
