I create Search Engine Optimized WordPress Themes and include both the keywords meta tag and description meta tag in the WordPress themes mostly because customers expect them. As an experienced SEO consultant I know meta tags today (2014) have little search engine value beyond blocking search engines from indexing pages, caching them etc…, the keywords meta tag for example is ignored by major search engines, Google in particular ignores the keywords meta tag completely. I thought meta description had no effect on your rankings, only on the ctr at the serps
Google Uses Meta Description Tag
Just want to clarify that since 2008 I made the first website online until this moment the google always uses the meta description tag on all my websites, whether it used Stallion or another themes for them.
I have checked them correctly by seeing the results giving by google search results pages. So it has proven that google still uses meta description tag if we put it in our header file as well.
