Under the Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Options : SEO Plugin Warnings Tab : Stallion WordPress SEO Warnings

There are two options.

  • ON
  • OFF
Stallion WordPress SEO Warnings

Stallion WordPress SEO Warnings

When “Stallion WordPress SEO Warnings” is set to “ON” the Stallion SEO Plugin checks the Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Options (checks it’s own SEO options) for potentially damaging SEO settings related to the Not Index settings (canonical URL usage to recycle link benefit).

If ALL the SEO damaging Stallion WordPress SEO Not Index options are active Stallion outputs 2 red SEO warnings (related to categories and tags), 1 orange SEO notice (author archives) and 1 blue SEO reminders (date archives).

ALL Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Stallion SEO Warnings

The above screenshot (2 red warnings) is the worse case scenario of the Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin user ticking both the Not Index Tags and Not Index Categories settings: I hope no one does that, blocking both Tags and Categories is a bad SEO choice! In my experience the best SEO strategy is NEVER block categories and seriously consider not using tags (limit the number of tags to an absolute minimum). If you follow this SEO strategy you would set categories and tags to be indexed: the only question is fully indexed or just the first page of each category/tag. For Stallion Responsive Theme users setting fully index makes sense, for none Stallion Responsive theme users set index first page only.

All the damaging Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin options related to Not Index are found under “Stallion SEO” > “Not Index” Tab.

Below is a breakdown of what each SEO warning refers to.

Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Not Index Date Archives SEO Reminder

If under the “Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin” : “SEO Plugin Warnings” Tab : “Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Warnings” you see the following SEO reminder:

“Not Index Options : WordPress Date Archives”
“Block All Date Archives”

Stallion Block All Date Archives SEO Reminder

Stallion Block All Date Archives SEO Reminder

This is NOT an SEO warning because blocking the WordPress date archives is a good SEO strategy, they have no SEO value (waste of SEO resources). This option recovers any link benefit to the dated archives.

This is a reminder to check you don’t have any internal links to the dated archives via the WordPress Archives Widget and/or the WordPress Calendar Widget: if you use them, remove them from your sidebar etc… If those widgets are active, no matter what other options are set they will waste some SEO link benefit.

Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Not Index Author Archives SEO Reminder

If under the “Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin” : “SEO Plugin Warnings” Tab : “Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Warnings” you see the following SEO reminder:

“Not Index Options : WordPress Author Archives”
“Block All Author Archives”

Stallion Block All Author Archives SEO Notice

Stallion Block All Author Archives SEO Notice

This is NOT an SEO warning because blocking the WordPress author archives for single author sites is a good WordPress SEO strategy, they have little SEO value (waste of SEO resources). If you have a multi-author WordPress site OR a single author site without Home Page archives (a Static Front Page is set), they MIGHT hold limited SEO value. They probably won’t have SEO value, but you might be stuck with a WordPress theme that links to the author archives (the author archive links can be disabled if you use the Stallion Responsive theme), if that’s the case see the Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Not Index Author Archives Tutorial links below.

“Block All Categories”

Stallion Block All Categories SEO Warning

Stallion Block All Categories SEO Warning

You have a serious search engine indexing issue on your WordPress site regarding your WordPress Category Archives.

While you have this SEO warning, the Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin is stopping all search engines from indexing your WordPress Categories!!!

It is strongly recommended to change the “Not Index Options : WordPress Category Archives” option to either “Index All Categories^^” or “Index First Categories Only : Block Paged 2,3,4…^^” (see Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin Not Index Categories Tutorial link below to help decide which).

“Not Index Options : WordPress Tags Archives”
“Block All Tags”

Stallion Block All Tags SEO Warning

Stallion Block All Tags SEO Warning

You MIGHT have a serious search engine indexing issue on your WordPress site regarding your WordPress Tag Archives: depends upon your SEO strategy, if you have no tags, this won’t cause SEO damage, if you have a lot of tags, this might not be the best SEO option.

While you have this SEO warning, the Stallion WordPress SEO Plugin is stopping all search engines from indexing your WordPress Tags. Even if you have no tags (an SEO strategy I use) or have deleted all your tags, I’d suggest setting “Index First Tag Only : Block Paged 2,3,4…^^”.
