Google Plus Project SEO Value
Looking at possible search engine optimization value in using Google Plus in July 2011 and so far looks quite good.
If you’ve ever tried to use Facebook or Twitter for adding extra SEO value to your websites you’ll have found the links to external sites are rel=”nofollow”.
If you aren’t familiar with rel=”nofollow” any link with a nofollow tag will pass NO link benefit to the site the link goes to. Links from Twitter and Facebook have ZERO SEO ranking value, all the links are nofollow and pass no link benefit!
Google Plus is different, since Google knows exactly how rel=”nofollow” works looks like they might be trying to use webmasters looking to promote their sites via backlinks to grow Google Plus fast.
When you make a post to Google Plus and add a link to one of your websites it is NOT rel=”nofollow” this means it does pass link benefit.
However, if you post a comment on someones Google Plus page your link to your Google Plus profile does include a rel=”nofollow” tag, so spamming the crap out of others Google Plus posts won’t increase PR to your Google Plus pages.

Update: I was right about the dofollow links to grow Google Plus social network fast using webmasters looking for links. Google changed all dofollow links to nofollow links, so now (2014) there’s no direct SEO link value from Google+.

No need to put your email address in the body of the comment, all you have to do is put it in the email address line of the comment (which is hidden to the public so your email address won’t get added to a email SPAM lists).
The Google+ project aims to make sharing on the web more like sharing in real life. Basically Google’s attempt at a Facebook :-)
